يستعرض الكاتب مفهوم الحرية، فقد يطرح بعض الكتاب طرحا يبتعد عن السوية، أن لأي شخص حرية قول ما يشاء وكتابة ما يريد إن لم يصاحب هذا عنفا فعليا، وأن هذا من حرية الرأي التي يجب أن تسود كل المجتمعات، كما أن هذه من الشبهات العظيمة التي يجب الحذر منها وتحرير معناها فليست هناك حرية مطلقة تتيح لشخص قول ونشر ما يشاء إلا في حدود القانون، يعرض الكاتب مفهوم الحرية من جانب العقل والمنطق، فلا توجد حريات مطلقة دون قيد أو شرط، بل الحريات مشروطة بما لا يخالف القانون، وهذا المفهوم من أهم المفاهيم التي يجب تحرير معناه ومراده في هذه الأيام، يتحدث أيضا عن مفهوم الرغبة في الإصلاح، فقد ينحى الكثير منحى أن الرغبة في الإصلاح تكفي لإعفاء صاحبها من أي عقاب أو لوم، والحقيقة أن دعوى الصلاح أو الإصلاح لا تكفي أبدا لثبوتها لمن إدعاها.
