بالنظر للأهمية التي يحتلها هذا الكتاب فقد اعتنى الدكتور جليل إبراهيم العطية بتحقيق متنه فاهتم، أولا : بضبط الكلمات التي تحتاج إلى ضبط، خاصة الشعر، ثانيا : خرج النصوص التي تحتاج إلى تخريج وتوثيق، ولم يكثر من التخريجات مكتفيا بألا حالة إلى المصادر المعروفة خاصة بالنسبة لدواوين الشعر، ثالثا : ترجم لبعض الأعلام، وترك ترجمة المشهورين لقلة الجدوى من جهة، ولئلا يثقل الهوامش من جهة أخرى، رابعا : في هوامش الكتاب إلى ما يستطع قراءته بشكل سليم لرداءة المخطوطة، خامسا : وضع ما كتبه ضمن النص داخل معقوفين لتمييزه عن النص الأصلي. سادسا : صنع مجموعة فهارس علمية تيسر على الباحثين وطلبة العلم مهمتهم، سابعا : كتب دراسة تناول المؤلف وحياته وعصره وكتابه.
