هي قصة عن مغامرات الطفل الشقي \"توم سوير\" وأصدقائهتجري أحداث هذه الرواية على ضفاف نهر الميسيسيبي حيث يعيش الفتى توم مع عمته العجوز الصارمة بولي التي لا توفر جهدا في سبيل فرض سلطتها ووصايتها على توم وأخويه الصغيرين. لكن توم بطبعه شقي متمرد ومغامر لا يركن للطاعة والخضوع وهو إلى ذلك عاشق متيم بطفلة جميلة سكنت قريتهم مؤخرا وبرغم صغر سنه يخطط توم ورفيقه المجرم هاكلبري بالهرب من القرية الرتيبة واقتحام عالم القراصنة المثير وذلك من خلال الإبحار بقارب مسروق وفعلا يبدآن المغامرة التي تقودهما إلى اكتشاف جريمة قتل مرعبة بطلها مجرم عتيد وهنا يدخلان في مغامرة أخرى لا تقل إثارة عن الأول.
