كتاب يحكي جوانب مجهولة من التاريخ المصري، وبالأخص تاريخ المصريين وليس التاريخ المعتاد تداوله من تاريخ الحكام والملوك والعواصم، فهو يسرد تفاصيل حياة الإنسان المصري وطريقة معيشته وعاداته، فمثلا في أحد الفصول يحكي عن الاحتفال برمضان والمولد النبوي وطقوس الاحتفال بالأعياد في القاهرة المملوكية إلى جانب وصفه لطريقة الملبس والمأكل والأحياء القديمة. ما يميزه أيضا استخدام اللهجة العامية القديمة في القرن الثامن عشر والتاسع عشر وهو ما يتيح لك تخيل طريقة المصريين في الكلام وعقد مقارنة بين اللهجة العامية في الماضي والحاضر.
