يقدم هذا الكتاب موضوعا له أهميته الكبيرة في تاريخ فن التصوير العربي الإسلامي، يتمثل في دراسة توثيقية وفنية لإحدى أهم المخطوطات المصورة لمقامات الحريري المحفوظة في مدينة بطرسبورغ في روسيا ولم تطبع أية دراسة شاملة عن هذه المخطوطة ومنمنماتها في أي مكان، سواء أكان ذلك في البلاد العربية أم خارجها، كذلك لم ينشر عنها إلا القليل المتناثر هنا وهناك في كتب التراث أو في دراسات تاريخ الفن الإسلامي مع طبع بعض تصاويرها من المنمنمات.
