هذا الكتاب يبدو معنيا بسؤال هام : كيف يمكن توظيف التطورات النقدية الحديثة في قراءة تراثنا وكشف جمالياته ؟ يجتهد مؤلفه في محاولة الإجابة عن هذا السؤال وغيره من الأسئلة التي تخص البنيوية وسواها من مناهج نقدية حديثة. ويصب الباحث جهوده التطبيقية بخاصة على نصوص الشاعر ابن المعتز محاولا كشف مكنوناتها وجمالياتها عبر تركيزه على العناصر الفنية : الصورة واللغة والإيقاع التي تشكل معا محاور هذا الكتاب الذي يمت بوشائج قوية إلى نظرية الأدب والمنهج البنيوي. عبر لغة نقدية يبدو أنها تحرص على مصطلحاتها ومفاهيمها ورؤاها. أما النقد التطبيقي واستنطاق النصوص وتأويلها فيشكل جل هذا الكتاب.
