\"مرهم العلل المفصلة في الرد على أئمة المعتزلة\" هو عنوان هذه الرسالة التي بين أيدينا والتي هي من تأليف المؤرخ والباحث الصوفي \"عبد الله بن علي اليافعي\" المعروف بتحيزه للفرقة الشافعية وبتحيزه للمتعصبين من الأشعرية وكتابه هذه يحتوي على الرد الذي دونه على سؤال وجهه إليه بعض الفقهاء الزيدية، يسأله فيه عن رأيه ببعض المسائل الخلافية التي تتعلق بأصول الدين وأشياء من شبه المعتزلة، كمسألة منزلة الغزالي ومعرفة الفعل وصفات الله وغيره وما يستشف في ردود المؤلف أنه كان على ثقافة واسعة وعلم يبرز قي إمساكه بزمام القلم حتى لا يخرج عن نطاق موضوعه، كما ويستشف أنه كان شاعرا عظيما، إذ كثير ما يستشهد على ما يذهب إليه بفريدة أو ببيت شعري يدونه في المقام.
