هذا الكتاب مقدمة لقراءة التراث العربي القديم قراءة شمولية، تأخذ كل معطيات المعرفة-في هذا التراث-وتحاول أن توصل ما أضحى منبتا في جل الدراسات التي تناولت التراث العربي، لأن فكر التخصص هو فكر حديث للغاية، وإن كان هو مطلب العصر، نتيجة لتشعب العلوم وكثرتها وإيغالها في الدقة، إلا أن ذلك في اعتقادنا-لا ينسحب على تراثنا القديم الذي ينهض فيه كل علم على علم آخر مهما بدا-في العصر الحديث-التباعد بين العلمين، أو العلوم ؛ لأن ثمة سلطة معرفية، تشد كل علم في التراث إلى علم آخر، ففي الديني تجد البلاغي، وفي النحوي تجد المنطقي، وفي الطبي تجد الطبيعي والأدبي وهكذا، إن البحث برؤية تجزئ التراث ولا تأخذه كبنية معرفية عامة، قد يخل كثيرا بعطاءات هذا التراث، ونفاسة نتاجاته العلمية.
