رسالة الغفران هي نص سردي قصصي يحمل خيطا دراميا يبدأ منذ بداية الرسالة وينتهي بنهاية الجزء الأول منها، يضع أبو العلاء المعري نفسه بموضع الراوي الذي يسرد النص بضمير المخاطب الخاص موجها خطابه لابن القارح، ابن القارح-الذي كان حسب القراءة القديمة متلقي الرسالة-أصبح وفق القراءة الجديدة بطل القصة المتخيلة التي نسجها أبو العلاء المعري، إذ قام ببناء عالم خيالي متكامل للمحشر والحساب والسراط والحوض والجنة والنار وجاء بابن القارح بطل روايته وأقحمه بهذا العالم ناقلا إياه في مختلف أماكنه وزواياه، فيلتقي بمجموعة أشخاص بالجنة يتحاور معهم ويحادثهم بعدة أمور يطغي عليها الجانب الأدبي ثم يفعل كذلك مع أهل النار ومع الملائكة وخزنة الجنة.
