يوضح الكتاب إن الباحث في تاريخ الرواية العربية الحديثة، يرى إلى أي حد ارتبطت هذه الرواية في نشأتها بالتراث العربي إرتباطا قويا ومع ذلك فقد ذهب بعض النقاد والدارسين إلى نفي الصلة بين الرواية الحديثة والتراث، مؤكدين إرتباط الرواية العربية الحديثة بالرواية الأوروبية، وهذا القول لا يخلو من المغالطة، إذ إن المراجعة سريعة لمعظم أعمال الروائيين الرواد تؤكد إرتباطهم الوثيق بالتراث العربي.
