في هذا الكتاب الحب كلب من الجحيم ل (تشارلز بوكوفسكي) برع بوكوفسكي في أن يدخل إلى شعره الكثير من خواص الرواية والقصة القصيرة ولا سيما الحورات والسرد وحرص على أن يبقى شعره بسيطا طوال الوقت غير مدع أو متثاقف وقد نجح فعلا في هذه المعادلة في عدد كبير من قصائده غير أن البساطة نفسها تتحول أحيانا خفة شديدة خاصة حين تتخذ القصيدة بالنسبة إليه شكل القصة حيث يمكن أن تستمر القصيدة عددا كبيرا من الصفحات يمضيها في سرد عادي وتفصيلي دون أن يتمكن دائما من رفعها إلى مستوى الشعر.
