لى امتداد تاريخ طويل تعرضت عمان لغزوات الامبراطرية الفارسية . وفي العصور الإسلامية تعرضت عمان لغزو جيوش الحجاج بن يوسف ؛ وكذلك جيوش الدولة العباسية. وفي العصور الحديثة جاء الغزاة البرتغاليون بالتزامن مع تحركات القوات الهولندية والفرنسية والإنجليزية وعلى امتداد هذا التاريخ الطويل من المعاناة كانت المقاومة العمانية تلحق الهزائم الماحقة يالغزاة كما أنه لم يحسب على هذه المقاومة ولا على الشعب العماني اتخاذ مواقف عنصرية إزاء شعوب هؤلاء الغزاة . لقد استمدت المقاومة العمانية خصائصها من تنوع الجغرافيا. ومن انفتاح الجماعة الجهادية الاباضية ونزعتها الواقعية وروحها الوطنية في زمن الحرب والسلام.
