يتناول الكتاب ملكة الصحراء يوميات رحلة غيرترود بيل من دمشق إلى حائل على ظهور الإبل حيث في 16 ديسمبر 1913 انطلقت الرحلة من دمشق ميممة حائل بقافلة مكونة من 17 بعيرا محملة بالمؤن والخيام وثلاثة جمالين وطباخ، ورجل كمرشد ودليل ورغم التحذيرات التي تلقتها بأن أهل البادية في الجزيرة العربية يتشككون من الأوروبيين فإنها لم تخبر السلطان العثمانية أو البريطانية عن رحلتها خشية أن تمنعها تلك السلطات من السفر لخطورة الرحلة.
