دعا الدكتور سيف الجابري في كتابه الأبناء إلى أهمية بر الأم في حياتها وبعد مماتها وترك عصيانها حتى لا يؤدي ذلك إلى غضبها عليهم، ومحذرا من هذا العصيان الذي يجلب لصاحبه الشقاء في الدنيا والعذاب في الآخرة، مشيرا في كتابه إلى عدد من القصص التي تبين فضل الأم على أولادها ومنها قصة موسى عليه السلام، والقصص التي تحض على البر والإحسان، ولفت الدكتور الجابري إلى أن كل الشرائع السماوية والوضعية أكرمت الأم وجاء الإسلام فوضعها في المكانة اللائقة بها، ومؤكدا عليها في القرآن الكريم وفي أحاديث الرسول الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم.
