من أجواء الرواية : ذات يوم، تواجد في إنكلترا فعلا أولاد خضر وقد روى أحد النساك ويدعى رالف من كوجشال، أن ولدين أخضري اللون ظهرا فجأة في قرية وولبيت خلال حكم الملك ستيفن وذلك في القرن الثاني عشر وجد الولدان مختبئين في حفرة أثناء موسم الحصاد، كأنا مرتعبين ولم يتمكنا من أسبوع التحدث بالإنكليزية ورفضا تناول أي طعام، نقلهما صاحب المزرعة إلى مزرعته ووافقا بعد مرور من الزمن على تناول الحبوب النيئة، تعلم الولدان في النهاية التحدث باللغة الإنكليزية وقالا إنهما أتيا من مكان يدعى بلاد الصالح مارتن حيث الشفق يخيم على الدوام وأضافا أنهما كأنا يبحثان عن ماشية والدهما عندما سمعا أصوات الأجراس ولم يكن قد سبق لهما سماع تلك الأصوات من قبل عندها، تبع الولدان الصوت حتى وصلا إلى كهف وخرجا منه إلى إنكلترا. مات الولد الصغير بعد وقت قصير، لكن الفتاة كبرت وتزوجت رجلا من نسل الملك لين.
