ركز الكاتب على جذور الأناركية في الحضارات القديمة ؛ مشيرا إلى امتداداتها في المجتمعات البدائية ويبدأ الكاتب في تتبع الأناركية منذ وجود البشر في مجتمعات بدائية ثم يشير إلى وجود الأناركية في الصين القديمة أيضا وتحديدا إلى الفلسفة الطاوية فيها كما تطرق الكاتب كذلك إلى إمتداد الأناركية في الفكر اليوناني القديم حيث يعتقد أن اليونان شهدت بعض النصوص الأناركية التي تنتمي لبعض المفكرين الذين اعتقدوا أنه ليس من الحكمة أن يتخلى الناس عن حرياتهم لصالح الدولة كما أرجع الكاتب الأناركية إلى العصور الإسلامية ويزعم أنه تم العثور على بعض مظاهر الفكر الأناركي في العصور الإسلامية المبكرة.
