يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن سفاراد حيث أخذت سفاراد اسمها من تيمة المفنى والاضطهاد الأيديولوجى كما أنها استدعاء لأحد الرموز العالمية للمنفى سفاراد الأرض المفقودة التي لم ينسها قط اليهود الذين طردوا من إسبانيا في عهد الملوك الكاثوليكيين، وهي كذلك كناية عن أمثلة عديدة من الرجال والنساء الذين تم نفيهم واستبعادهم وترحيلهم، ثم ملاحقتهم واضطهادهم لذا يبدو موضوع الكتاب وعنوانه معبرين عن نداء قوي للتضامن والتشبث بالذاكرة والهوية.
