يشتمل هذا الكتاب على ثلاث روايات ترجمها الدكتور لويس عوض في أربعينيات القرن الماضي هذه الروايات تمثل موضوعات مختلفة وثرية فالرواية الأولى مثلا هي الوادي السعيد كتبها الأديب الرائع صمويل جونسون وهي من أبرز الأعمال الأدبية التي تمثل المذهب الكلاسيكي في القرن الثامن عشر والروايتان الثانية والثالثة هما شبح كانترفيل وصورة دوريان جراي وكلاهما للمؤلف الكبير أوسكار وايلد زعيم مدرسة الفن للفن في أواخر القرن الـ 19 ومن هنا حفل القراء بهذا الكتاب القيم لما اشتمل عليه من أعمال أدبية رائدة وهامة في تاريخ الأدب العالمي وكذلك فترجمات الأستاذ لويس عوض متميزة وتعتني بأدق التفاصيل.
