يتحدث الكتاب عن تاريخ النجف السياسي حيث تعد النجف مدينه تاريخية ودينية مقدسة لها مكانتها الخاصة ليس في العراق فحسب وإنما في الوطن العربي والعالم الإسلامي ولا أريد هنا أن أتحدث عن تاريخ المدينة الطويل ولا عن دورها السياسي في مختلف الفترات التاريخية ولكني أقول أنني اخترت الكتابهة عن تاريخ النجف السياسي في الفتره بين السنوات 1921-1941 لإني وجدت ندرة واضحة في الدراسات التاريخية التي تخص هذا المدينة خلال تلك الفترة المهمة التي تبدأ مع تكوين المملكة العراقية وتتويج فيصل بن الحسين ملكا على العراق وتنتهي بفشل انتفاضه العر اق 1941 وإعادة إحتلال بريطانيا للعراق مرة أخرى في حزيران من تلك السنة.
