يتناول الكتاب سلسلة من سير أعلام شخصيات عراقية تركت بصماتها عميقا في شتى ميادين الحياة، وأسهمت بشكل أو بآخر في تكوين المشهد التاريخي للعراق الحديث. فكان منهم رجال دولة وسياسيين وزعماء قبائل، وضباط وقادة عسكريين ورجال فكر وفنانين وأدباء منذ تأسيس الدولة العراقية الحديثة، فهؤلاء الأعلام أفنوا أعمارهم في خدمة شعبهم ووطنهم، فكان جدير بأن ينظر إليهم بعين التدقيق والاهتمام لما لهم من دروس وعبر، وكان منهم على سبيل المثال : محسن أبو طبيخ .. سيد الفرات والعلوي الثائر، أحد بناة الدولة العراقية أثناء فترة الاحتلال البريطاني للعراق، حيث تناول نشأته، ودوره المحوري في معارك الجهاد، ودوره في شرارة الثورة، وتشكيله لحكومة الثوار بكربلاء.
