يعد الانكباب على سيرة أخناتون تحديا كبيرا ومغامرة حقيقية، فالأعمال المتخصصة الكثيرة التي تناولته جعلتنا إزاء حقيقة لامراء فيها، وهي أننا نعرف الشيء القليل فقط عنه، وحتى هذا النزر الذي وصلنا عن أخناتون يبقى مثار نقاش وجدال واسعين في صفوف المختصين. وكل محاولة مشابهة هي بمثابة مجابهة لغز محير، عدا بعض الاستثناءات القليلة، حتى عندما يتعلق الأمر بالفرعون نفسه، أو بالرجال والنساء الذين أحاطوا به، أو كل من ساهم ولعب دورا في مدينة الشمس، إضافة إلى أنه يصعب التعرف عليهم، وتتبع شجرة أنسابهم.
