تدور الأحداث في القرية والجبل والمدينة والقصص في ثناياها تمزج بين أحلام الريف الجميلة التي تشبه عالم الخيال وقصص العشق النقية وقد ترجمها عن الصينية أسماء صالح وهميس محمود وتقول تانغ ينغ عن قصصها بأن أحداثها فى جنوب الصين وهي مستقاة من الأساطير القديمة خاصة فى مقاطعة سيشوان وتضم 18 فصلا في شكل متوالية قصصية تمثل كل واحدة منها حكمة صينية وكل مقولة تحكي قصة في سرد أدبي متصل على لسان شاب وفتاة من عصرنا الحالي فقد شعرت البطلة يانغ يانغ بأنها تريد أن تبوح بما فى نفسها لأحدهم لأن الجميع عجز عن فهمها، الإنسان غريب الأطوار عندما يريد استخدام اللغة للتعبير عن مشاعر بعينها فإنه لا ينجح فى التعبير عما بداخله ويكتفى فقط بكتمه داخله فيعذب نفسه فراحت تعيش فى الماضى بحثا عن طوق نجاة.
