تدور أحداث المسرحية في بيت تاجر كويتي درس ابنه (فارس) في إنجلترا وعاد الى الكويت مشبعا بالعادات الغربية المتمثلة في السهر والرقص ويحاول الشاب أن يعلم أخته الصغرى (عواطف) الموسيقى (الهاليجالي) وهي رقصة تعلمها هناك. والبنت الكبرى (موضي) تحب (علي الخراز) من غمار الناس ويصر أبوها على أن يزوجها من (مساعد) لأنها خطبت له منذ كانت في المهد وابن عمها شاب ضعيف الشخصية ليس له من وسيلة إلى قلبها إلا قرابته واعتماده التام على عمه ليحقق له ما يريد أما (علي) الذي تحبه فهو شاب مثقف من الجيل الجديد يراسلها وتراسله وقد تعاهدا على الزواج وشقيق الفتاة يقف بجانبها لأنه أيضا مثلها ومثل صديقها من الجيل الجديد وله مثلها مشكلته مع أبيه فوالده يفرض عليه العمل في التجارة.
