أهم كتاب عن الاستبداد في عالمنا العربي ! عبد الرحمن الكواكبي (1848 1902) مفكر ومصلح ولد في حلب، بدأ حياته بالعمل في الصحافة داعيا للإصلاح والقومية العربية، فتعرض لكثير من المتاعب من قبل الدولة العثمانية، فسجن عدة مرات، وعاش شريدا يطوف العالم العربي داعيا إلى الحرية السياسية، والعدالة الاجتماعية، وتجديد الدين. له كتابان مشهوران يعتبر «طبائع الاستبداد ومصارع الاستعباد» أهمهما.ومن أقواله المأثورة في هذا الكتاب : لقد تمحص عندي أن أصل الداء هو : الاستبداد السياسي.. ودواؤه هو : الشورى الدستورية. من أقبح أنواع الاستبداد : استبداد الجهل على العلم.. واستبداد النفس على العقل ! خلق الله الإنسان حرا، قائده العقل.. فكفر.. وأبى إلا أن يكون عبدا، قائده الجهل !! إن المستبد فرد عاجز، لا حول له ولا قوة إلا بأعوانه أعداء العدل وأنصار الجور. تراكم الثروات المفرطة، مولد للاستبداد، ومضر بأخلاق الأفراد. الاستبداد أصل لكل فساد!.
