يجيب هذا الكتاب عن طبيعة صِلات الإنسان بالحيوان، وما أعقدها من صلات وأكثر مما أشير إليه في نصوص التاريخ وإذ إنه عبر أمهات الكتب الميثولوجية، إلى جانب النصوص الدينية، وما يدخل في عالم الأمثال، يصبح الحيوان في مرتبة تضع الإنسان نفسه فـي مواجهة ماض عريق، وفي حاضرنا بالذات، أي ما يصعد بمفهـوم الحيوان إلى مقـام الأمثولة، أو العبـرة، ومكاشفة حقائق تمس بنية الإنسان النفسية، وهو يمارس أعمال سفْك دماء في أقرب المقربين إليه، وفي استخفافه بما ينأى بنفسه عنه وهو لا يكف عن مطاردته، وعن إبقائه بجواره.
