قدمت الدكتورة غراء للقارئ في هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الأبحاث التي كتبتها بين عامي 1990 و2011 فقد أرادت أن تسجل ما كتبت ليبقى وقد يقرؤه هذا أو ذاك ويتأثر به أو ينتفع به أو ينقده أو يثير فكره وتقول الكاتبة ولكنني بحكم تخصصي أكتب باللغة الفرنسية للقارئ الأجنبي أو العربي الذي يجيد الفرنسية ورغم أنني اعتدت كتابة الكثير من الأبحاث باللغة العربية إلا أنها تبقى محدودة مقارنة بما كتبته بالفرنسية لذا قررت نشر هذه الأبحاث المكتوبة بالعربية أو التي ترجمتها عن الفرنسية في كتاب كنت أود لو أنني قمت بترجمة كل أبحاثي التي بلغت أكثر من خمسين بحثا نشرت في فرنسا وكندا ولبنان وتايلاند وبلجيكا والمغرب والولايات المتحدة ومصر وتنوعت بين الأدب المقارن والشعبي والمغاربى الناطق بالفرنسية وأدب الطفل والترجمة والنقد وتدريس اللغة والشعر ولكن يوجد دائما الجديد والجديد ويصعب على الباحث أن يعود إلى الوراء.
