يؤدى الكتاب رسالة مهمة في توضيح دور الرحلات الفرنسية الى الجزيزة العربية ويؤكد أن هذه الرحلات وما سجل عنها من كتب ووثائق لا تقل أهمية عن غيرها ويترجم بعض الفصول والملحقات من تلك الكتب ويتحدث عن مؤلفيها الذين اعتنقو الإسلام مثل (ناصر الدين دينيه) و(عبد الله بن البشير) وغيرهما ممن لم يسلموا وعن جهدهم في جمع معلوماتهم وتصنيفها وترتيبها وإضافة إلى تصحيح بعض المعلومات المغلوطة التي وردت عن بعضهم والمتعلق عليها ويجمع بين دفتيه عددا من الرحالين الذين كتبوا عن الجزيرة العربية مما يعطى القارئ فرصة على الاطلاع على كتابتهم والمقارنة فيما بينهم.
