هذا الكتاب عن مصائر الفلسفة بين المسيحية والإسلام ليس تاريخيا محضا. فهو لا يعيد طرح سؤال مواطنة الفلسفة ومنفاها في كلتا المدينتين المسيحية والإسلامية إلا ليحاول اقتراح جواب جديد عن إشكالية التقدم والتأخر على ضوء موقف الحضارتين من مسألة العقل. حيث يرتدي تاريخ الفلسفة من حيث هو تاريخ نظر العقل في العقل أهمية استثنائية. فمع تمخض المركزية الأثنية الأوروبية في القرن التاسع عشر بات تاريخ الفلسفة موضوعا لصراع إنتروبولوجي. فالحضارة الاوروبية قرأت نفسها حضارة عقل مطلق واصطنعت على ضوء هذه القراءة النرجسية جغرافية فلسفية وهمية تمحورت على تغريب العقل \"اليوناني\" وإنكار قدرة العقل السامي على ممارسة الفعل الفلسفي.
