يتناول الكتاب قسمين بعد شرح المقدمة ونبذه مختصرة عن سيرة الحلاج الأول هو ديوان الحلاج الذي صنعه وأصلحه كامل مصطفى الشيبي والثاني هو كتاب الطواسين الذي حققه وأصلحه بولس نويا اليسوعي يعتقد بأن الحلاج هو أشهر شخصية صوفية لما أثاره من جدل حول معتقداته وأيضا للطريقة البشعة التي أعدم بها فهو يعتبر شهيد الحب الإلهي وأشعاره التي تعتبر نموذجا عميقا للتصوف والتي تحتمل التأويل وتتجاوز الشكل الظاهر إلى معاني باطنية عميقة.
