يتحدث الكتاب عن أنه ذات يوم يتلقى الروائى الشهير رسالة غريبة تحكي له فيها امرأة مجهولة بجرأة وشفافية عن حياتها بلحظات فرحها وحالات خيبتها معترفة بأنها تكن له منذ سنوات حبا صادقا وعميقا وسرعان ما ينكشف القناع عن هوية هذه المرأة التي لم تكن ربما مجهولة لديه وذات ليلة يلتقى مسافر في حانة برجل كان فيما مضى فخورا متسلطا فغدا اليوم خاضعا منكسرا ويحكي له قصة حبه الذي ضاع بسببه لأنه لم يعرف كيف يحافظ على زوجته التي طالما أهملها وأذلها.
