كتبت ناهد صلاح في مقدمة هذا الكتاب (نحاول أن نقدم نموذج الفتوة دون أن تربكنا الشعرة الدقيقة بين الفتوة والبلطجي ونكشف عن الطريقة التي تعاملت بها السينما مع هذا النموذج الذي ترسخت صورته في الوجدان المصري في مرحلة تاريخية ما كمعادل شعبي للحاكم الرسمي وكحاجة ملحة لضبط ميزان الأمن والأمان في مجتمع افتقد السلطة العادلة) وتتحدث المؤلفة عن وقت زوال الفتوات من مصر معتبرة أن زوال هذا العصر لم يحدث فجأة بعد ثورة 23 تموز بل تم التمهيد لإغلاق هذه المنظومة في نهاية ثلاثينيات القرن العشرين حين أرادت الشرطة المصرية التخلص من الفتوات بعد أن كانت تستعين بهم.
