يشكل عصر الدولة الطاهرية مرحلة الانتقال من أدوار التاريخ الإسلامي المتأخر إلى العصر الحديث، ومن هنا تمكن أهمية دراسته وقد بدأ ذلك العصر في القرنين العاشر الهجري والسادس عشر الميلادي، وشهدت تلك الحقبة بروز العديد من القوى السياسية المعارضة للدولة الطاهرية، وشكلت تلك القوى كيانات اجتماعية مستقلة، وقد سعت الدولة الطاهرية جاهدة إلى إخضاعها لحكمها.
