تناول الكتاب أهمية الخطاب الأدائي الذي يعنى الممثل المسرحي بتوصيله إلى المتلقي. وتألف الكتاب من ثلاثة فصول الفصل الأول تناول فيه الباحث أساليب الاداء التمثيلي في مرحلة التأسيس بكافة أنواعه وحسب التسلسل الزمني وأما الفصل الثاني فتضمن عرض أساليب الأداء بعد ظهور المخرج المسرحي وتطرق الفصل الثالث إلى عرض أساليب الأداء في التجارب الحديثة. وتم التطرق في هذه الفصول الثلاثة إلى إدراك الإنسان وجوده في هذا الكون المترامي الأطراف ومحاولة التعبير عن وجوده وعن كينونته الذاتية من خلال ممكناته الصوتية والجسدية وكان ذلك التعبير هو المحاولات البدائية الأولى.
