كتاب المقتصد في شرح التكملة أوسع كتاب صرفي مستقل في زمانه ألفه الشيخ عبد القاهر الجرجاني (ت471 هـ) إمام علمي المعاني والبيان, وشرح فيه كتاب التكملة لأبي علي الفارسي (ت377 هـ) الذي يعد ثالث كتاب صرفي مستقل يصل إلينا بعد كتابي (التصريف) لأبي عثمان المازني (ت249 هـ) و(دقائق التصريف) للقاسم بن محمد بن سعيد المؤدب (ت بعد328 هـ) ثم تتابعت بعد المقتصد الكتب الصرفية المستقلة ونقول المستقلة لأن كتب النحو الأولى كانت تشتمل على المباحث النحوية والصرفية والصوتية متداخلة مع بعضها كالكتاب لسيبويه والمقتضب للمبرد والأصول لابن السراج وكتاب (المقتصد) لا يستغني عنه أي باحث في علم الصرف لأن الجرجاني شرح فيه كتاب (التكملة) جملة جملة وأفاض في الشرح كما أن قارئ هذا الكتاب سيجد عبد القاهر صرفيا بعد أن عرفه بلاغيا في كتابيه أسرار البلاغة ودلائل الإعجاز.
