دافيد لوبروطون (بروتون) في كتابه تجربة الألم بين التحطيم والانبعاث يشخص الألم مرضيا، طبيعيا (ألم الوضع) ملاحقا عذاب ألم ولذة آخر، ساعيا إلى البحث في ماهية تحطيم بعض تجارب ألم الشخص. فالألم حين يكون خلاصا ويؤدي إلى إعطاء الحياة كيمياء معنى، ويكون الألم مثار بوجوده، وممتع في سريانه روحا وجسدا وهو في كل الأحوال أفضل من غياب المعنى الذي يضفي على الألم ذاته عذابا إضافيا، يتحول حينئذ الألم إلى هوية الشخص ليصارع الإحساس بالنفس ومن ثم الإحساس بالوجود، ومن خلال هذه الهوية والتي يعرف به متألما يتعاطى الحياة كمتعة دون خوف أو وجل من حميمية النهاية وإنما لذة اللحظة المعاشة بكل حيثياتها وبكل تفاصيلها وبكل مآلات الخلق الموحية لها دغدغات الألم في الجسد بانكساره وفي الروح بارتعاشتها.
