يعالج الكتاب محاولات الأمم المتحدة معالجة نواح معينة في وضع الشرق الأوسط والبحث عن تسوية ويشتمل على ملاحظات الأمين العام، بالإضافة إلى ملاحق تتضمن الرسائل والمذكرات المتبادلة بين ممثل الأمين العام الخاص غونار يارينغ والحكومات التي أعلنت قبول قرار مجلس الأمن رقم 242 ويشتمل التقرير على نحو سبعين قرارا أصدرتها الأمم المتحدة عن القضية الفلسطينية، يتعلق معظمها بانتهاكات ومخالفات ارتكبتها إسرائيل وأدينت من أجلها عشرين مرة من جانب المنظمة الدولية بمختلف هيئاتها.
