يأتي الكتاب ليتناول تاريخ حمص وتراثها الشعبي حيث تتالت على مدينة حمص عبر تاريخها الطويل ثلاثة عهود شهدت فيها ازدهارا خاصا بها ونابعا منها، حيث بدأت بعصر ذهبي مع أسرة شمس غرام ومعبد الشمس الذي تمكن كاهنه اليافع من تولي منصب الإمبراطور في روما ثم تلاه عصر فضي عندما أصبحت مركزا لجند الفتح المقدم ومستقرا للعدد الأكبر من الصحابة، مما مكنها من تأسيس أولى مدارس، الحديث الشريف في صدر الإسلامل ثم جاء عصر برونزي مع أسد الدين شيركوه الذي أقام فيها واحدة من أقوى الممالك الأيوبية التي وقفت في وجه الفرنج.
