لم يلق الممثل والنجم والمنتج والمخرج السينمائي كلينت إيستوود Client Eastwood الاستحسان دائما من النقاد، وكانت وسائل الإعلام والصحافة على حد سواء قد تجاهلت أعماله وقتا طويلا، وتعاملت معها بازدراء وعدتها في أفضل الأحوال مشكوكا في أمرها، وفي الأسوأ شيئا لا يمكن الاعتداد به. بدا أن كلينت إيستوود قد ظهر يحمل علامة أفلام الغرب المدمرة الخاصة بسيرجيو ليوني Sergio Leone، وهو لم يساعد بالتأكيد في إزالة ذلك الانطباع عنه ؛ ويعد دوره الرومانسي المثير للجدل في هاري القذر Dirty Harry مثالا واضحا على ذلك. لكن إيستوود شخصية مثابرة، لم يتوقف قط عن العمل، وفي الواقع، لم يتوقف قط عن إثارة إعجاب الجمهور أو استكشاف مجالات جديدة.
