يتناول الكتاب أوضح المسالك إلى ألفية ابن مالك حيث أن ألفية ابن مالك منظومة شعرية في علم النحو والتصريف تزيد على ألف بيت في مختلف أبواب هذين العلمين وقد كثرت عليها الشروحات وكان من أهمها شرح ابن هشام الذي أسماه أوضح المسالك إلى ألفية ابن مالك فكك ألفاظها وحللها ووضح معانيها وبين ما انطوت عليه الألفية من مسائل نحوية وبين آراء علماء النحو خاصة المدرستين البصرية والكوفية وجاء على ذلك بالشواهد الشعرية والآيات وغير ذلك من أقوال العرب وأمثالهم وعلى هذه الطبعة حواشي هامة خاصة في تخريج الشواهد الشعرية ومعناه وإعرابها وبيان موضع الشاهد فيها.
