قصة الكتاب تدور بين طفلة وأبيها في المتحف الوطني حول الرقم والكتابات الأسرية ليشرح لها قصة الكتابة منذ إنطلاقتها الأولى مستعرضا سمات التفكير العلمي من خلال حوار يدور بين فتاتين حول ندوة أقيمت في مدرسة إحداهما يتناول طرائق التفكير العلمي ثم يعرض بعض تمارين الرياضة الفكرية كفاصل منشط بين طيات الكتاب. يستعرض الكتاب الأسس التي تبنى الحوارات عليها مثل وضوح العبارة وصدقها من أجل الوصول إلى الحقيقة بعد توفر الدلالات الموضوعية المؤدية إليها وتبيان أهمية التعامل مع المعاني في الانفتاح على أفكار الآخرين والإقرار بأن لديهم أفكارا حقيقية للتفكير الناقد.
