تتناول في الرواية جانبا من الحياة الاجتماعية التي كانت سائدة خلال فترة نهاية الستينيات، محاولة أن تصور بنية المجتمع الإماراتي التي كانت ملتصقة بتقاليدها الراسخة عبر أصوات أربع فتيات في أعمار متقاربة، يحاولن سرد حكايات \"شارع المحاكم\" أحد شوارع إمارة الشارقة، وتقول المؤلفة إنها جربت في رواية \"شارع المحاكم\" أن تغير النمط الروائي الذي كتبت فيه روايتها الأولى \"الجسد الراحل\"، والتي اضطلع في بطولتها الرجل وهو \"عيسى المزلاي\" بينما نجد في شارع المحاكم أن السرد قد قامت به مجموعة من الفتيات عبر أصوات داخلية وأخرى خارجية وتوقفات وصفية وبنى سردية جديدة وحوارات مونولوجية وديالوجية تتحرك في الرواية.
