رتب المؤلف مصطلحات المعجم ترتيبا ألفبائيا (من الألف إلى الياء) كما ينطق بها أهل العلم بالأصول، دون أن يعيد الكلمات إلى جذورها، مع إسقاط ال التعريف. ومهد للتعريفات الاصطلاحية بتعريف لغوي مبسط لمعظم المصطلحات، ثم أورد التعريف الذي رآه أكثر وضوحا. وربما ذكر أكثر من تعريف للمصطلحات في أكثر الأحيان. واعتمد في صياغة التعريف على لغة مبسطة واضحة، كما اهتم في الغالب بضرب الأمثلة والشواهد على تلك المصطلحات لتوضيح الغامض منها، متخذا من الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية مادة أساسية. هذا وقد أثبت بجانب كل مصلح ترجمته بالإنكليزية، دون أن يلامس ترجمة التعريف.
