اشتمل كتاب الكنز الدفين في الماء والطين على التقديم ثم البند الأول والذي جاء بعنوان (علي بن صلاح ومشروع تطوير وادي حضرموت) و(تقييم المخطوطة والاحتفاء بها) و(صورة قلمية بقلم المؤرخ سعيد عوض باوزير) و(عدن 1948م) وبعدئذ ذكرت بنود تعريفية مهمة للقراءة والاستطلاع، واحتوى الكتاب على حوالي (59) قولا في الزراعة، مثل زراعة الحومر، وزراعة البر الاسود الغشمور، القول في زراعة الدجر، والقول في زراعة الثوم، والقول في زراعة الرومي، وهي تفاسير عظيمة القيمة رائعة الوصف والأجناس. ثم ملحق الصور وأخيرا ملحق المخطوطات بخط المؤلف.
