يعد كتاب (آلام فارتر)، من روائع الكتب الأدبية للأديب الفيلسوف الألماني غوته (28 أغسطس 1749-22 مارس 1832)، فهو رواية تمثل وتصور قصة حب متكاملة من منظور فلسفي تراجيدي يعبر عن الروح العاشقة المحبة. إذ نشر غوته روايته للمرة الأولى في عام 1774 ثم نشر طبعة منقحة منها في 1787. وتعد الرواية ذات أهمية في حركة العاصفة والاندفاع في الأدب الألماني، وكان لها أيضا أعظم التأثير في الحركة الرومانسية في الأدب. وينظر النقاد إليها، على أنها مزيج حبكة أدبية قوامها : الجمال والسعادة والحزن والألم.
