رواية تخترق الزمان، وتعتبر تاريخ بغداد من عام 656 ه. إلى حاضرها من عام 1424ه. -2002 م فتوقظ أن العلقمي من رقدته وتبعثه ليسير مطأطئ الرأس أمام خيول المغول التي فتح لها بوابة الرشيد بل عاصمة الدنيا في حينها، لتدك بسنابكها جماجم أهلها، وتربع فوق الرماد حضارتها. هو اليوم يراها كما كانت بالأمس، ولكن مغول اليوم جاؤوا من الغرب يحملون في جعبتهم ما حمله مغول الشرف من الهلاك والدمار، الفعل ذاته والهدف عينه. وتبقى صورة العلقمي تتكرر كلما سنحت لها الظروف، فهل يعيد التاريخ نفسه؟ إن قراءة هذه الرواية تكشف عن حجم الثمن الفادح الذي تدفعه الشعوب لقاء خيانة أبنائها وتعزي هؤلاء الخونة الذين هم نبت شيطاني لا يحصرهم مكان، وليحدهم زمان، ولاينتمون لدين أو عرق أو طائفة، بل دينهم الخيانة. كذلك فإن هذه الرواية تزيح الستار عن كذب السياسة، وأماني الخائنين الزائفة، لتضعنا في النهاية قرب نهر الدماء الزكية، الذي يعلوه قوس النصر.
