يتحدث الكتاب عن أسواق مدينة فاس في عصر الدولة المرينية (٦٤٦-869 هـ / 1248-1465 م) تلك الدولة التي قامت في المغرب الأقصى في النصف الثاني من القرن السابع الهجري / الثالث عشر الميلادي وقد كان للمرينيين دور هام في مدينة فاس حيث اهتموا بكل مظاهر الحياة الاقتصادية بما فيها الأسواق إلى جانب اهتمامهم بكل جوانب الحياة الثقافية والاجتماعية والدينية هكذا نقل المرينييون المغرب الأقصى من الفوضى والاضطراب والتدهور الذي أصاب هذه البلاد أواخر عهد الموحدين إلى الأمن والاستقرار.
