في هذه الدراسة تختار الدكتورة عشتار داود من (الأسلوبية) منطلقاً لدراسة شعرية محمود حسن إسماعيل رغبة منها في دراسة النقد الحديث أولا : والبلاغة العربية ثانيا : فتجسدت تلك الرغبة في دراسة مزدوجة من خلال الجدلية المتحققة في بودقة الأسلوبية. تدرجت فصول الدراسة بشكل تصاعدي، بدءاً من الصوت، مروراً بالتركيب، وصولاً إلى الدلالة : فالفصل الأول منها هو (المستوى الصوتي)، وقد تمت فيه دراسة موسيقى شعر محمود حسن إسماعيل من خلال التماثل والاختلاف، اللذين يوفرهما عنصر الإيقاع فيه وقد انقسمت دراسة هذا الفصل إلى مبحثين أولهما: (الإيقاع اللفظي) كالتكرار، الاضطراري، والتجنيس، والترصيع، والوقفة... إلخ. أما البحث الثاني : فهو (الإيقاع العروضي) : مثل التدوير، والمزاوجة الإيقاعية، والتداخل، والتناوب، والتنويع.
