المهارات اللغوية فيما هو معروف أربع: التحدث والإستماع والقراءة والكتابة، وقد جمع المؤلف في كتابه هذا معظم هذه المهارات من القواعد النحوية والتعبير والإملاء والكتابة والقراءة والقصة والاناشيد والمحفوظات والشعر والحظ، ففي الفصل الأول تعرض إلى مفهوم تدريس النحو بين النظرية والتطبيق وأفضل الأساليب لتدريس القواعد النحوية والابتعاد عن الأساليب التقليدية إلى الطرائق الحديثة الوظيفية في التدريس. أما الفصل الثاني فقد ناقش فيه أساليب وطرق تدريس التعبير، والأسس المختلفة التي تؤثر في تعبير الطلاب وأنواع التعبير المناسبة للطلاب، أما الفصل الثالث فقد تطرق فيه إلى أساليب وطرق تدريس الإملاء والمهارات الإملائية. وفي الفصل الرابع تطرق إلى موضوع الضعف القرائي وأسبابه المختلفة، ثم أنواع القراءة وكيفية تدريسها.
