تقوم الرواية على دراسة مظاهر الواقعية السحرية في إحدى روايات الكاتب (جاسم عاصي) الموسومة برواية (مستعمرة المياه) التي غاصت في أعماق الهور العراقي لتحدثنا عن واحدة من الأساطير الشعبية في الجنوب، وهي أسطورة (كونت حفيظ) ذلك التل القابع في وسط المياه، والذي عمد طوال سنوات عديدة على استنزاف رجال قوية الشويعرية وبلاخص السادة المكاصيص. وقد ركزت الرواية جل اهتمامها على المكان باعتباره المكون السردي الفعال إذ نلاحظ آثاره الواضحة التي انعكست على الشخصيات. كما أدت الأسطورة دورا متميزا كرافد ثقافي مهم في تجلية المظهر الواقعي السحري في المتوالية السردية حيث نجح الروائي في استثمار هذا الرافد وبالتالي تقديم نص ذي قيمة أسطورية.
