يعتبر هذا الكتاب من كتب البلاغة التعليمية لا التنظيرية، فمادته تتسم باليسر وحسن التقسيم، وفيه جانب تطبيقي بلغ منه المراد، وأصله مخطوطة جمع فيها العلامة \"الرازي\" علوم البيان والمعاني والبديع في حقل واحد، فكانت بحق روضة للفصاحة، وهو كتاب في البلاغة متوسط في الزمان، فلا هو بالمتقدم ولا بالمتأخر سلك فيه مؤلفه سبيلا فريدا يألفه من تقدمه، وتابعه عليه من تأخر عنه، فكان فاتحة نمط من التأليف في البلاغة العربية.
